THE GIFT
The Gift By Danielle steel
I
have read many Novels by Danielle steel and undoubtedly she comes under one of
my favorite authors. Her writing style is simple with no big issues to deal
with or no huge conflicts to face. The Gift is one such story which can be
easily understood by a kid of twelve to thirteen years old. But why I choose to
review this novel is because how predictable novel is yet how steel is able to grab
reader’s attention till the end of the story.
Danielle steel is always known for her emotional attachments among characters and appealing story-line. The story gives us description of two altogether different families , their ups downs and how their paths crossed that turned a miserable tale in to a happy story.
The story begins with sorrowful death of a little girl named Annie Whitaker. Annie was the blessing and reason of joy for Whittaker family which was snatched away from them on the Christmas Eve. The death of Annie changed everything in Whitaker family forever. On the other hand, there was Maribeth and her family.
Maribeth was a teenage girl who was kicked out of the house by her father and sent to a convent missionary on hearing about her being pregnant. Maribeth had no choice but to run from convent missionary as she felt suffocated and caged. Her journey begins as a loner and with the feeling of unhappiness, unloved and secluded form all social circles.
She was on her way to a fresh start. Shortly after she settled into a new town much distant from her house and familiar faces where she gets a job of a waitress at a local restaurant. The destiny was already written for Tommy, the elder brother of Annie and Maribeth to intervene. Tommy and Maribeth accidentally met and hopelessly fall in love with each other. Maribeth became self reliant and continued with her studies with the help of Mrs. Elizabeth, Tommy’s mother.

Maribeth was welcomed
wholeheartedly to Whittaker family and became a part of their family. When
Tommy learnt about Meribeth’s condition and unwanted pregnancy he helped her
with everything and Maribeth also learnt about the death of his five years old
sister Annie which made both sympathetic with each other. The story towards end
gives hope to Maribeth for her unborn child to live happily with a lovely
family.
Danielle
steel with her interesting writing style gives description of both Tommy
and Maribeth's condition paragraph by
paragraph. What makes steel’s stories
beautiful is her love woven among characters and different extraordinary
elements of life. This book surely will touch the heart of all ordinary
audience out there since this is what the life is.
I
would recommend this book to all the teenage girls and boys out there to feel
how struggle and happiness after rough phase of life smells like. Steel with
her each writing piece proves that one doesn’t need any supernatural elements
or verbiage to make a book successful. All it needs is heart touching story and
characters to make you weep.
